Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Training

This course is a new Scoutmaster’s and Assistant Scoutmaster’s introduction to the Boy Scouts of America and to the responsibilities, opportunities, and resources that will ensure a successful troop leadership experience. Course topics include:

  • The Role of the Scoutmaster
  • Troop Organization
  • Troop Meetings
  • Working with Boy Leaders
  • The Patrol Method
  • The Patrol Leaders’ Council
  • The Outdoor Program
  • The Advancement Program
  • Program Planning
  • Membership
  • Paperwork

The course is presented in one 5-hour session.

  1. I have a new parent in Troop 14 who would like to become a uniformed ASM. Where can he sign up for the ASM training course in the area? He just missed the Advance Camp session, and I understand LEAD is offered in January, but was hoping there was something offered sooner than that.

      Michael,
      Jose can also give you information on training dates for Herms. Online training is available for SM and ASM basic. OLS (Outdoor Leader Skills) is a face to face training. Online training is through the my.scouting.org site.
